Crystals, Healing and the Moon

Have you ever wondered what do crystals have to do with the moon? Did you think people were crazy when you first became interested in crystals and heard of fellow crystal lovers laying their crystals out in the light of the full moon? I felt like I’d stumbled upon another universe yet one that made sense

The connection between the moon and crystals is really more simple and important than one might think. Crystals are made up of unique minerals from the earth, it only makes sense that they would be directly related and highly affected by the energy of the moon. Scientists prove time and time again that the earth and the moon are not only closely connected by very much dependent on one another, so why would a small segment from the earth, a crystal, be any different?

WHAT IS MOON CRYSTAL CLEANSING ALL ABOUT?

During the Full Moon, it is the perfect time to cleanse and recharge your crystals because the moon is harnessing the most energy that particular night.
Crystal cleansing and charging can be done in a many ways but one of the favourites is to rinse your crystals in some purified water and then lay them out beneath the moonlight. If you’d rather not leave them outdoors then you can place them near a window, ideally one that gets a glimmer of the moon. While placing your crystals in a safe place outside or near a window, you might want to speak your intentions out loud because they will be absorbed and be supercharged in the moon. When you wake up the next day, bring your crystals inside and place them back in their place. Since crystals are mineral-filled they will have fresh, clean, and intention-filled energy that will literally shine. And if you miss the exact date or have plans during these special nights each month? This crystal ritual can be done anytime during the shadow phase of the moon, so as a rule that is 3 days before or 3 days after the new or full moon dates of each month.

HOW CAN THE MOON DAYS BE SO SPECIAL IF THEY HAPPEN EACH AND EVERY MONTH? Each month, there is a new moon and a full moon, so yes they do happen pretty regularly, however, as with anything, there are expectations to that rule. This month on the 6 Jan 2023 we had a Wolf Moon. January’s full Moon is a “Micromoon” this year. Think of this term as the opposite of a “Supermoon.” Micromoon simply means that the full Moon is at its farthest point from Earth (not the nearest point) when the Moon is at its closest point to the earth, that’s called a Supeoon In astronomical terms, we call this “apogee.” Specifically, January’s Micro full Moon is about 252,600 miles from Earth. The Moon is nearer or farther from Earth because the Moon orbits Earth in an elliptical path. One side is nearer to Earth and one side is farther. This distance does affect the Moon’s size and brightness, although it’s probably not that visible to the naked eye. The perceived size of the Moon from Earth is more related to the “Moon Illusion” and how close the Moon appears to the horizon; in this case, it’s high above the horizon so it may not appear to loom over us the way it appears when it’s near the horizon. There are many variations that make many Full moons or New Moons special but the most easily understood is that for each Moon, it correlates with a specific astrological sign, which is really just another way to explain universal energies that humans experience as a collective. For example, this month, we will have a New Moon in Aquarius. This collective energy gave the possibility for each of us to tap into the energy of Aquarius. Not everyone is conscious of this collective energy, but if you pay attention and give yourself a little time to get still and reflect around these few nights each month, each and every one of us has the ability to tap into it.

THE NEW MOON AND FULL MOON

The New Moon is when the sky is at its darkest point in the sky. This is a time to reflect on the dark or the unknown. During a New Moon, it is a time to get very clear on your intentions for the month and what goals you would like to work on for the next 28 days until the harvest of the Full Moon.
The Full Moon occurs when the sun and the moon are directly opposite from one another and there is the most light and energy in the universal atmosphere. This is the best time to cleanse your crystals and to let go of anything that is no longer serving you for that season. At this time, we are able to reap our rewards from the intentions we set during the New Moon (or not) and refocusing on getting back on track or revising our plan to continue onward to our goals. But keep in mind, the goals we set during the New Moon often don’t come anywhere close to fruition until the Full Moon in that exact same sign. For example, this month we will have the New Moon in Aquarius so those intentions should be revisited at the Full Moon in Aquarius.

The lunar cycle impacts the tides, the growth of plants, and influences the behaviours of animals - so it would be remiss of us to assume that the moon can’t affect human life. There have been suggestions the lunar cycle impacts menstrual cycles, sleeping patterns, mental and physical health. There is no absolute proof that the Moon can affect human life, but many people perform moon rituals in line with the lunar cycle each month.

Each month, the moon moves through its set phases and it is believed by many that this impacts our emotions, intuition, dreams and soul.

Month on month the Moon moves through a cycle of different phases from dark to new, waxing (growing bigger) to full, waning (getting smaller) back to dark and as she does she takes us on a powerful inner journey with her.

Working with the Moon and her phases means that rather than being thrown around by emotions and life, you get to take back control and make relevant changes in your life, working with the ancient wisdom and magic of the moons cycles to do this.”Both New Moon and Full Moon days are the perfect time for celebrating the moon and harnessing its power and magic.

“New and full moon days give us the opportunity for ritual, marking the passage of time and reconnecting back to ourselves and the power and magic of the moon.”

New Moons are about fresh starts, launching something new, and setting goals and intentions.

Virgo is an earth sign that is all about prioritising, multitasking and meeting deadlines– so the productive energy this New Moon is extreme.

New Moon rituals are exciting. From moon water to journalling to charging your crystals, there’s a lot you can do to make the most of this event.

The new moon is the beginning of a whole new lunar cycle and is a wonderful time for cleansing rituals, to ensure that you start afresh and with a blank slate.

Use a smudge stick or Palo Santo to cleanse your environment and your physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. Burn the stick, or even incense and hold the intention to use the smoke to cleanse away anything you don’t need. This is also a great time to do energy or chakra healing to really clear your energies.

This is also the time of the lunar cycle to set intentions so take time on the new moon to set up a quiet sacred space to tune into what you want the following month to bring, and to set your intentions.

A New Moon is the perfect time to set intentions, charge crystals, and drink moon water. Create a moon altar on a new moon that you can meditate/journal in front of through the lunar cycle.

Write out your intentions and what you want the lunar cycle to bring you.

This is a wonderful time to charge your crystals with the intentions you set and what you want to create.

Moon water will also help amplify your intentions. Fill a jug or container with drinking water, charge the water with your new moon intentions (you can also place your charged crystals in the water) and then place the covered water container either outside or by a window on the night of the new moon so it can be charged with the energy of the new moon.

“Drink the moon water to embody your intentions and help bring them to life.”

Full Moon Rituals

The full moon is the moment of completion and release.

At the full moon hold a celebration ritual of all that came true or all you achieved during the waxing phase of the moon, do something that feels like it celebrates you and your work through the first part of the cycle.

The full moon is the time we release all thats stands in the way, so releasing and burning rituals are powerful around the time.

Write down all that you want to release and let go of in your life and burn it (safely) under the power of the full moon.

“You can also do releasing rituals around trapped emotions or limiting self beliefs. Do this at the same time as the full moon and the full power of lunar energy will come into play.

The full moon is also the perfect time for cleansing and charging your crystals, so make sure you put them outside or on a window place so they can soak in the powerful lunar energies.

It’s also a beneficial way to get to know your crystals and their energy’s while learning how lunar energies affect yourself.

The moon, that Divine force, is at work with all of us and will work with us if we let it.
